About The Event

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) was set up by the 194 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2010, as an operating entity of the Convention’s financial mechanism. It aims to assist the achievement of the ultimate objective of the Convention on stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations “at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic (human induced) interference with the climate system.” The Board of GCF has approved 81 projects, out of which 19 are submitted by direct access accredited entities.

The Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC at its twenty-second session requested the Board of GCF to facilitate an increase in the amount of direct access proposals in the pipeline. In response, GCF promotes national and regional direct access through its Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme, and Project Preparation Facility. GCF also encourages capacity building programmes for National Designated Authorities and Accredited Entities to share best practices and lessons learnt through a peer-to-peer approach.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) is a regional direct access entity to GCF. Its first project “Climate Information Service for Resilient Development in Vanuatu” was approved by the Board of GCF in 2016. This webinar aims to provide peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and information sharing on practices and lessons learnt by SPREP in the project initiation, preparation, submission and implementation. The webinar will also provide insights on future approaches by the national and regional direct access entities on project design, development and funding submission to GCF.
