
BACKGROUND
The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT RRC.AP), in collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Regional Collaboration Centre for Asia and the Pacific, and with the financial support from the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan (MoEJ), is pleased to announce the upcoming “Regional Training Workshop on National Adaptation Plan (NAP): Strengthening Capacity for Multi-Sectoral Inclusion in the NAP Process in the Asia Pacific Region”, to be held from 28 to 30 May 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. This workshop comes at a pivotal moment in the global climate agenda, as the outcomes of the first Global Stocktake and renewed commitments under the Paris Agreement underscore the urgent need to scale up effective adaptation planning and action.
This workshop is designed in response to the growing capacity needs in developing comprehensive country NAP across the Asia-Pacific region. The workshop will provide a dynamic platform to strengthen institutional and technical capacities of key national stakeholders. It will introduce appropriate methodologies, practical tools, and tested models aimed at facilitating the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive, inclusive, and gender-responsive NAPs.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
This regional capacity-building workshop aims to support governments of Asia and Pacific countries with the national adaptation planning process, via strengthening their capacities and providing practical and internationally tested models, methodology, and tools to:

Improve understanding and raise awareness of the NAP process;

Strengthen the capacity of national teams to undertake and advance the NAP process;

Familiarize participants with key NAP elements, support channels and links to other national processes; and
-
Provide practical guidelines on the formulation and implementation of NAPs.
TARGET PARTICIPANTS

This invitation-only workshop is tailored for a diverse group of stakeholders, including government representatives at national and sub-national levels, technical experts from sector ministries, representatives of national training and academic institutions, and non-government actors such as youth, civil society, and research organizations who are engaged in climate resilience and adaptation planning. Together, participants will share experiences, build networks, and strengthen the collective capacity of the region to respond effectively to the complex challenges posed by climate change.
