A Regional Synthesis Workshop on Enhancing Resilient Livelihoods to Address the Climate Change, Disasters and Poverty Nexus in Asia, was convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 25-26 June 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The aim of this event was to share and review the findings of three country studies in Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Vietnam commissioned by FAO, with the aim to understand the climate change-disaster-poverty nexus, identify implementation models that address this nexus effectively, and make recommendations to incorporate these models into country policy and planning processes.
During the two-day workshop, participants discussed the initial findings of the study teams, taking stock of the commonalities and differences across the three studies as well as taking into consideration inputs from countries facing similar challenges. With the feedback, insights, and recommendations gathered from the workshop, the study teams and FAO will now finalize the country reports and develop a regional synthesis paper.
The event was attended by the three study teams, government officials from broad range of ministries including Agriculture, Climate Change, Disaster Risk Management, Environment, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Urban Development, as well as academia, development partners, and UN agencies.
AIT worked along with FAO in facilitating the group discussions and the organization of the workshop. AIT will also contribute in the development of the regional synthesis paper.
