BACKGROUND

The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT RRC.AP) plays a key role in advancing climate change adaptation efforts in developing countries across the Asia-Pacific region, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement. The Centre implements capacity-building and knowledge-sharing programs, particularly in climate finance and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Simplified Approval Process with support from the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan (MoEJ), and in collaboration with partners experienced in climate action planning, including the GCF Secretariat.

While GCF offers significant opportunities to drive climate action across the region, many countries face common barriers such as limited institutional capacity, technical expertise, and challenges in navigating the GCF requirements and procedures. This workshop responds to the growing need for enhancing capacity among countries in Central, South, and Southeast Asia to effectively access and utilize climate finance through the GCF.

The training workshop will provide a practical, hands-on platform to strengthen technical skills, deepen understanding of GCF mechanisms including the Simplified Approval Process and support the development of high-quality, fundable concept notes aligned with GCF investment criteria.
