Think Globally Fund Locally: Adaptive Finance to Strengthen Climate Change Adaptation

RRCAP convened a webinar on 27 September 2022 to invite perspectives on accessing finance for climate change adaptation for local actors.

The webinar was opened by RRCAP Director, Dr Guilberto Borongan, and Yuko Yoshida, Deputy Director of the Climate Change Adaptation Office, Ministry of the Environment Japan (MoEJ), who echoed the importance to empower local actors to access and control resources. May Thazin Aung, Climate Finance Researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), provided an overview and discussion about the principles for locally-led adaptation launched in January 2021 at the Climate Adaptation Summit. The keynote was followed by a panel discussion with climate adaptation practitioners Imelda Phadtare, from Save the Children, and Pakamas Thinphanga of the Thailand Environment Institute on their experiences to support community-led adaptation. Drawing on research, previous and ongoing projects in Asia and the Pacific as well as in Africa, the discussion sheds light on examples, challenges, and good practices to bridge access to finance via capacity building, flexible financing, managing climate change adaptation projects, and collaboration for co-finance and co-benefits.

A recording of the 90-minute webinar, which was attended by over 86 participants from 21 countries can be accessed here.
