The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT RRC.AP), in collaboration with the Hydro-Informatics Institute (HII) of Thailand and with support from the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and technical contributions from Hitachi Power Solutions Co., Ltd., organized the webinar on “Flood Risk Mapping and Urban Resilience: Climate Information and Technology for Adaptation Planning” on 15 October 2026.

The webinar brought together nearly 200 participants from 20 countries across the region and beyond to explore the role of digital tools and climate information in flood risk management and adaptation planning. Through technical presentations, practical demonstrations, and local experiences, the sessions highlighted how flood mapping can support disaster preparedness, infrastructure planning, and climate-resilient decision-making.

The webinar began with a warm welcome from Ms. Hnin Lai Win, Senior Programme Officer at AIT RRC.AP, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Guilberto Borongan, Director of AIT RRC.AP and Dr. Sornthep Vannarat, Acting Deputy Director of HII, Thailand.

Dr. Theerapol Charoensuk, Model Developer of HII, presented a basin-scale flood management decision-support approach, using the Hat Yai Economic Area as a case study. Mr. Ahmad Faiz Ibadurrahman, Solution Design Engineer at Hitachi Power Solutions Co., Ltd., demonstrated FloodS and DioVISTA, highlighting their applications in rainfall-based flood mapping, high-resolution flood simulation and scenario analysis to support urban and infrastructure planning.

The final technical session featured Engr. Rommier Nickol Cotejar, Department Head 1 from the Municipality of Matag-ob, Leyte, Philippines, who shared practical experiences and challenges in applying flood-risk information to support local disaster preparedness and decision-making.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Huno Solomon Kofi Mensah, Head of Climate Change Cluster, AIT RRC.AP, expressed appreciation to the speakers, partners, participants, and thanked MOEJ for its continued support for regional capacity-building on climate adaptation.
